BUT, just in case you were wondering, according to dictionary.com, cheesecake really IS a cake. This is because the definition of pie tells us that in order for something to be a pie, it has to have a filling, and it has to have a crust made of pastry. Since cheesecake crust is cookie crumb, not pastry, it doesn't fit the definition.
So now you know!
