What's New On Overdrive in September 2021?

Here are some of our favorite new items that have just been added to Overdrive for digital checkout:

Ace of Spades
by Faridah Abike-Iyimide: Devon and Chiamaka have everything anyone could ever ask for. They're the ultra-smart students at an elite private school where they are have just been made Prefects and are each top contenders for valedictorian. But just as they start to think their Senior year couldn't be more perfect, a mysterious person using the name "Aces" starts sending out mass texts, revealing Devon and Chiamaka's darkest secrets, and threatening to completely destroy everything they've worked for.

Small Favors by Erin A. Craig: Ellerie lives in a small town, tucked in between several mountains where nothing much ever happens... or at least, nothing happens since the time long ago when her ancestors fought off the demons that used to live in the woods surrounding the village. But one harsh winter, strange things begin to happen. Alone, lacking supplies, and desperate, Ellerie and her village might have to face the possibility that the demons might be back... with a vengeance.

Somewhere Between Bitter and Sweet by Laekan Zea Kemp: Despite the objections of her strict, traditional Mexican-American parents, Penelope has dreams of becoming an entrepreneur and someday opening up her own bakery near her dad's restaurant. Xander is the cute new boy who works at said restaurant, who is trying to build a relationship with his grandfather while searching for his long-lost father. Both Penelope and Zander have secrets, though, and when those start to get out, their futures and the future of their budding romance might be in serious trouble.

What's New on Overdirve for August 2021

Here are some of our favorite titles that have just been added to Overdive for you to check out and read on your favorite device:

Blackout by Various Authors: If you don't have the time to commit to an entire book or series may we suggest this? Six amazing authors present a series of short stories that are all connected by a single unifying thread: they all take place during a blackout in New York City in the middle of a heat wave. The stories tell the tales of a pair of angry exes, long-time besties, perfect strangers and more, told by authors like Dhonielle Clayton (The Belles) and Angie Thomas (The Hate U Give).

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalo: A new series from the author of Stalking Jack the Ripper promises a whole new kind of chills. Emilia and Vittoria are twins and secret witches, living in secret in Sicilian society and working normal jobs at their family's restaurant... that is until the night Emila finds Vittoria brutally murdered and mutilated. Her grief leads her on a quest for vengeance at any cost, even if it means using the darkest of magic. Magic that is completely forbidden, and threatens to unleash hell itself upon the earth.

Love and Other Natural Disasters by Misa Sugiura: Nozomi was sure this was going to be the summer she would get a girlfriend. She was NOT expecting this would be the summer she would be suckered into a fake relationship to make her actual crush's ex jealous. But that's ok, because Nozomi has a plan! She is going to turn her fake romance into a real thing by making Willow see she really is the perfect girl for her and turn fauxmance into romance or else!

What's New On Overdrive?

Ok, so we might have gone a little bananas and ordered WAY too many great new books for you to check out on Overdrive. Here are four we think you might enjoy for the month of February:

City of Villains
by Estelle Laure
: All we can say about this one is: it's Disney villains, meets DC comics. No, seriously, it is, and it's kind of awesome. Mary Elizabeth is an intern at Monarch City PD, and she FINALLY gets to work a case like a real detective when a young woman goes missing. It all seems pretty straightforward until she meets a girl with horns, a sea monster (well, ok, technically a LAKE monster, but still!) and a bunch of other weird things that definitely should not be in the dark and mysterious city! If you are a fan of anything Disney, or Batman/Barbara Gordon, you just have to read this one.

A Complicated Love Story Set in Space by Shaun David Hutchinson: Noa goes to bed on a typical night, and somehow wakes up on a space ship, with no idea how he got there. Also, the ship is about to explode. Which is bad. Luckily there are two other people on the ship... but neither one remembers how they got there either. Which is also bad. Of course this is the worst possible time to fall in love, but that is exactly what starts to happen to Noa as he develops feelings for DJ, one of the other passengers. As if you needed more reasons to read this one: there are also aliens and a murder. This is a fun, LGBTQ+ romance, set in.... well, space. Duh.

Unchosen by Katharyn Blair: Ok, so first, it's a standalone fantasy, which as you may know is SUPER hard to find these days! Also, there are elements of fairy tales AND horror here so what's not to love. Charlotte is dealing with two massive disasters: one, the boy she is madly in love with is in love with her sister, and two, everyone around her is basically turning into zombies thanks to the Crimson, a disease spread by eye contact. Only the Chosen One can rid the world of the Crimson, and it turns out Charlotte is most definitely NOT the chosen one... but the band of marauders looking for the chosen one THINK she is, which is just... bad. Perfect for fans of fairy tale retellings with a twist!

Wings of Ebony by J. Elle: Rue is a typical girl just trying to live her life in Houston, Texas until the day her world is shattered completely. When her mother is shot dead right outside their home, Rue must not only cope with her loss, but she must cope with something she never expected in her wildest dreams: the father she never knew comes into her life to take custody of her and her sister. Oh, and by the way, her father is actually a God. who wants to take Rue to live in a magical city for those with magical powers, which now, includes Rue. Perfect for fans of Tomi Adeyemi and Angie Thomas.

What's New On Overdrive for August?

Our hottest month of the year is here, and that means it's a great time to stay inside and enjoy one of the books we have available for download on Overdrive! Here are a few books we think you will enjoy:

The Disturbed Girl's Dictionary by NoNiequa Ramos: Macy's school has had it with her, and has officially classified her as "disturbed." But the way Macy sees it, you'd be pretty "disturbed" too if your dad was in prison, your mom depressed, your little brother was in foster care and your best friend refused to talk to you. Written in the form of Macy's personal dictionary, she tries to explain why she feels and acts the way she does, as she tries to cope with a life completely out of her control.

Girls on the Line by Jennie Liu: It's not easy being a teenage girl anywhere, but it's especially difficult for Luli and Yun who live in China, where the government has strict control over almost everything. The girls are both orphans, and at 16 have been kicked out of state-run care and are on their own, having to work grueling factory jobs just to stay alive. When one of the friends finds out she's going to have a baby, everything gets 1,000 times more complicated.

Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron: 200 years after Cinderella got her "happily ever after" things are not so happy for girls in her kingdom. A 16 girls are required to attend a huge ball where the men of the kingdom choose their wives. But, if a girl is NOT chosen... she is never heard from again. Sophia is not sure what happens to the un-chosen few... but she is turning 16 this year, and she is not planning to stick around long enough to take the chance of finding out.

What's New on Overdrive for June?

Need something new to read? Here are some of our picks for the best books that have recently been added to Overdrive! Don't forget to download ReadSquared and sign up for the Teen Summer Reading program and register your books read during summer for a chance to win amazing prizes!

By the Book by Amanda Sellet: Mary loves to read and is especially fond of classics. And if her books have taught her anything is that boys are all cads and scoundrels and can't be trusted. That's why she has said no to relationships and is instead focused on writing her own book, called "The Scoundrel Survival Guide." But, when Mary falls hopelessly head over heels for the biggest player she knows, Mary realizes you can't always deal with life by the book, and sometimes you have to bend your own rules to live happily every after.

Dear Universe by Florence Gonsalves: Between trying to keep up with her senior year at school, trying to get into college, and trying to deal with her dad's terminal illness at home, Chamomile has no time for anything else. ESPECIALLY not her weirdo coworker Brendan, with his man-bun and his strange fashion choices and bizarre sense of humor. But what Chamomile is about to realize is that sometimes, the best people, come wrapped up in the weirdest packages.

A Dress for the Wicked by Autumn Krause: Emmy knows her life is destined to be boring. After all, she is from a tiny town where there are hardly any opportunities for girls like her. Then one day, Emmy hears that the country's top fashion house has launched a design competition especially for small-town girls like her. Emmy knows she has the talent, but does she have the strength it takes to survive in the cut-throat fashion world?

Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales: If you took Grease, turned Sandy into a boy and threw in a little bit of Clueless and a little bit of Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, you'd end up with this adorable LGBT+ take on summer love, high school and having the courage to be yourself.
